Having survived a few Vermont storms and the odd sensation of the beginnings of frost bite (such a thing can only happen to a girl recently arrived from the jungle of Ecuador), I will say that not only did I understand you, but I also laughed.

An amusing tale! – And indeed it does remind me of my childhood. My brother and I slept in the attic of my mother’s house. Sure, it was New Jersey – southern Jersey – but without any insulation … well, it was so cold that an open container of milk would have surely froze.
(Summers, of course, were quite the opposite, duplicating conditions not unlike your Rayburn – when it worked, that is.)
